Painting Process

Any painting is a multistep process. It involves priming and preparing the canvas, underpainting and sketching, as well as building the dimension of the subject through layers of painting.

I have sometimes start with an idea in mind, but changed the entire layout by the time it is finished.

I began drawing at a very young age. My mother encouraged me throughout my youth; and I continued to develop my skills with watercolor lessons as a foundation when I was in my early teens. As a young adult, I began my career as an independent artist painting on ceramic tiles, and then murals for designers, businesses and homeowners. Most of my work was waterbased due to time constraints. My skills include in painting, pencil, pastels, airbrush, alkyds, and now, oils. I have painted wood, concrete, floors to ceilings- inside and outside, ceramics, paper, canvas, and digital rendering.  As an artist, I have done it all.

I want to make sure that my work extends the period of time and brings the most enjoyment for  years to come.

As a finished piece, each piece is carefully coated with sealer to protect the painting.

It may take up to a year for oil paints to cure, so I am very cautious to protect the integrity of the work.

The Title, Date, and Signature are placed on the back on a protected surface not to disturb the front of the canvas and to endure aging.

I want to treat the canvas like a baby and fully protect it as it travels to its destination. So I personally ensure the best possible delivery of the artwork.

I put every effort into making sure that when you see something made by Laurie Repetto, that is worth it and you are proud to own it.
